20 Oct Student Capture™ for Social Presence
Online courses where students do not have the opportunity to visually engage with their classmates and instructors can be lonely places to get an education. But if that course is wired for face-to-face interaction, even asynchronously, that feeling of studying in a vacuum can be eliminated and a sense of connectedness is established. Marsha Orr at CSU-Fullerton’s School of Nursing, in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, was tasked with creating an online nursing course where the curriculum would include an oral presentation from each student. While YouSeeU’s platform for video-based assignments was an easy solution, the benefits of Student Capture™, extend beyond conducting oral assessment at a distance. Marsha recounts her students’ views on YouSeeU as a key element for social presence within a course in this short video.
